Matzav Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 24, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Matzav mobile application ("Matzav", "we", "us", or "our") accesses, collects, uses, stores, and shares information. Matzav helps users share their current activity and availability status with friends.

1. Information we collect and use

Account information. When you create or use an account, we may process your Firebase user ID, display name, profile photo, email address, and/or phone number. Authentication may be provided through Firebase Authentication and Google Sign-In.

Status information. Matzav stores the activity and availability status you choose or that is determined by enabled automatic features, such as home, away from home, work, driving, meeting, dog walk, in a call, sleeping, available to talk, or do not disturb.

Contacts you select. If you grant contacts permission, Matzav lets you choose contacts to add or invite. For contacts you explicitly select, the app may store the contact name, phone number, email address, and a small contact-photo thumbnail in order to manage your friend list, display the selected contact, determine whether that person already uses Matzav, and send invitations at your request. Matzav does not intentionally upload your entire address book. Phone numbers and email addresses are also normalized and hashed for account matching.

Calling friends. When you explicitly add a Matzav user as a friend, your registered phone number may be shared with that confirmed friend so that either of you can start a phone call from the friend list. A friend phone number is not published in a public directory and is used for the call feature and friend relationship only.

Location information. If you enable location-based features, Matzav may access precise device location and device-reported speed. When automatic driving detection is enabled on Android, Matzav may continue receiving location and speed updates while the app is not visible by running a user-visible foreground location service with an ongoing notification. This processing is used to detect driving and to determine whether you are within a location zone you configured. Saved zones, such as home or work, may include latitude, longitude, and radius and are stored with your account. The current app is not designed to store a continuous history of your raw GPS locations. You can disable automatic detection at any time from the app.

Automatic call and sleep status. When Automatic Detection is enabled on Android, Matzav may read the device's current audio mode to determine whether a phone or VoIP conversation is active and may use screen interactive/lock events and time of day to determine the optional sleeping status. Matzav does not use this feature to read call audio, caller identity, phone numbers, call logs, message content, or screen content. The sleep rule uses whether the device has remained non-interactive for the configured period after 22:00 and ends when the device is unlocked.

Status timers. If you choose a timed status such as Meeting or Do Not Disturb, Matzav stores the selected status, its planned end time, and the previous status so the app can display the remaining time to your friends and restore the previous status when the timer ends. Timers are limited to a maximum of 24 hours.

Call-finished notifications. If you explicitly choose "wait for the call to end" for a friend who is currently shown as on a call, Matzav stores a one-time waiting request. Firebase Cloud Messaging may process a device notification token so Matzav can send you a push notification when that friend's status leaves the on-call state. The request is removed after that notification opportunity or when you cancel it. Matzav does not read call audio, call content, or call logs for this feature.

Technical and service data. Google/Firebase services used by the app may process technical information necessary to provide authentication, database, security, and related services in accordance with their own terms and privacy practices.

Advertising data. The free version may use Google Mobile Ads. Google and its advertising partners may process information such as IP address, device and advertising identifiers, ad interactions, diagnostic information, and approximate location derived from IP address to deliver, measure, personalize where consent permits, and protect advertising. Where required, Matzav asks for advertising consent and provides access to privacy choices. Premium users are not shown ads and the app does not request banner ads for them.

Purchase information. If you buy or restore Matzav Premium, Google Play or Apple may process payment and transaction information. Matzav receives purchase status, product and transaction identifiers, and verification data needed to provide and restore Premium. Matzav does not receive your full payment-card number.

2. Why we use information

We use information to provide authentication, maintain user profiles and friend lists, match selected contacts with Matzav users, display activity and availability status, provide optional automatic location, driving, call, and sleep status features, send invitations when requested, enable user-initiated calls between confirmed friends, provide and restore Premium purchases, deliver and measure advertising in the free version, maintain security, troubleshoot problems, and operate the service.

3. Sharing of information

Matzav does not sell personal information. The free version uses Google Mobile Ads, which may use or share advertising and technical data as described above and according to the user's consent choices. We may also share or process information with service providers that operate app infrastructure and purchases, including Google Firebase, Google Sign-In, Google Play, Apple, and Google Mobile Ads. Your profile/status information may be made available to other authenticated Matzav users as necessary for the app's friend and status features. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or to protect users, the service, or legal rights.

4. Data security

We use reasonable technical measures, including encrypted network connections and Firebase access controls, to protect personal information. No electronic storage or transmission system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

5. Data retention and deletion

We retain account and app data for as long as needed to provide Matzav, unless deletion is requested or a longer retention period is required for legitimate legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons. Users may request deletion of their Matzav account and associated personal data by contacting us at mikron30@gmail.com. When a valid account-deletion request is completed, associated user data will be deleted except where retention is legally required.

6. Permissions

Matzav may request access to contacts, phone calling, and location only for features that require those permissions. On Android, when you explicitly enable Automatic Detection, the app uses a foreground location service and shows an ongoing notification while that service is active. Automatic call-state detection reads Android's audio mode and does not require access to call audio or call logs. Automatic sleep detection uses device interactive/lock state and time of day and does not read screen content. You can turn Automatic Detection off in Matzav or revoke permissions in device settings, although related features may then be unavailable.

7. Children

Matzav is not directed to children under 13 and is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Matzav changes. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are made.
